Overview

Earthquake prediction is a challenging but largely open problem with many important applications. The ETAS model is the current state-of-the-art, but there are several possibilities to improve on it.

Questions

From the historical dataset, one can do prediction and then cross-validate from later data.

Dataset

The data are available on a github repository Links to an external site..

References

Prof. Stark from statistics has provided several background materials on the problem and the current model.

Tools

This is very much an exploratory data mining challenge. Its best to use the tools that you are most comfortable and familiar with. If you find you need more computation later in the project, discuss the best approach with the course staff.
