Spring 2016 - INFO 298: New Perspectives on Organizing Systems - Data Science (Bob's Book Club)

As we did last semester, we'll continue reading about prediction and "data-driven thinking" along with the associated statistical and computational machinery that these activities are based on. But we're going to be more focused this semester on synthesizing what we're learning into a new edition of The Discipline of Organizing. This edition will be much less comprehensive than the "TDO-Pro" edition you used in 202, and my goal is to create a book that can be used to teach TDO concepts to undergraduates in ISchool courses that have a data science or computational thinking flavor. Work on this "TDO-Informatics" edition is already underway and throughout the semester we'll take time to evaluate the current draft as it evolves to ensure that the most important ideas from the book club are making their way into the book.

Book List

Some of you have already read one or both of the first two books, and so we'll find another book for you to read that complements the others - probably one of these:

Meeting Time is still a bit up in the air but will probably be Wednesday 1-2, 205 South Hall, approximately every two weeks. First meeting will be 1/20. See schedule:
