The goal of these short "reflection" assignments is not to have you agonize over an essay, but to capture in one or two sentences an important idea that jumped out at you from the week's readings/videos.

For this week, give a short answer (1 sentence each is fine; 2 sentences max) to each of the following:

  1. Regarding the video Digits Episode 1: Connecting to the Future, what is one key idea or take-away that surprised you, or was new to you, or caused you to question your perspective on any aspect of the Internet's development or current state?
  2. Vannevar Bush's article contained the key ideas of hypertext, yet it took over 50 years for it to become a practical reality. (The World Wide Web wasn't the first instantiation of these ideas, but it was the first to become wildly successful.) Why do you think it took so long?
  3. Do you think it made sense to pair the Digits video with Bush's article? Why or why not?

Again—be brief! The goal is to enjoy exercising your perceptive faculties, not to stress out. I'll review these before class and pick out some recurring themes as a way to guide our discussion.
