Final Project Demos 2015: Thursday, Dec 10, 2:30-4:30pm, 310 Jacobs Hall (Directions Links to an external site.)
This course teaches concepts and skills required to design, prototype, and fabricate interactive devices and smart hardware products. The first half of the semester was dedicated to a survey of relevant techniques in 3D modeling and fabrication; electronics and circuit board design; sensing and actuation for interaction; embedded software development, wired and wireless communication with mobile devices, computers, and networks; and user interface programming. In the second half of the semester, students carried out a significant design project of their own choice in groups.
This semester, Interactive Device Design was one of the first classes to take place in the newly opened Jacobs Hall, and our final presentations will be part of the Jacobs Hall Winter Design Showcase. 11 projects will be on display with hands-on demos and posters.
Past students in this course find careers as Hardware and Software Engineers, Interaction Designers and Product Design Engineers, at both large companies (e.g., Apple, Google, Facebook) and mature startups (Fitbit, Uber) and young startups (e.g., Atheer Labs, Matterport, Automatic, OpenROV). Some start their own companies (DotDashPay Links to an external site., Dray Links to an external site.)
Instructors: Bjoern Hartmann and Paul Wright.
GSIs: Joanne Lo, Zhiwei Wu
