Assignment 9 – Campus Tree Walk
Because we are in the week of the course that emphasizes sensemaking in the natural world, this assignment is designed to encourage you to do more of that and to do it in a more self-aware way.
Your assignment is to go for a walk around the campus, using as your guide the “Forest Science Tree Trail” handout that is linked to this announcement. There are 25 trees on the trail
The trail starts and ends very close to Wheeler Hall and loops around the campus – probably takes about 20 minutes,, so if you don’t have a class before S&O you could start after 9am and have no problem doing the cycle.
Some parts of the trail can’t be followed because of construction since the handout was created a few years ago. More specifically, you won’t be able to see trees numbered 3, 4, 5, and 10. But when you get to the west end of trail near the Oxford street “Crescent” (near tree 8) please make a note of the cherry trees that are lined up at that entrance.
Other than that instruction, I have no specific directions for this assignment, and there’s nothing to turn in. I just want you to pay a little attention to the trees because it is probably something you haven’t done even though you’ve walked past them for years
