This lab involves working with Cost Distance or Cumulative Viewshed Analysis in your study area. As we learned in Ex. 11.1 (Viewsheds) and Ex 11.2 (Cost Distance) these typically involve looking at spatial patterns among features representing cultural activity (e.g., archaeological sites) with respect to terrain represented as a DEM.
(1) If you are going to use one of these tools in your Final Project use the other tool in this lab so you have first hand experience with both. If you plan to use both in your Final Project you can keep it relatively simple for Lab V but it's expected that you make it more rigorous for your final project. For example, for Lab V you can use fake site locations if you don't have real data.
(2) For Lab V a viewshed should involve Cumulative Viewshed Analysis between numerous sites divided by time periods or some other differentiation. A Cost Distance project should compare Euclidean to the Cost Function and produce either a map showing both (if it's possible in an uncluttered way), or just produce two separate maps.
Your final map should contain a scale bar, north arrow, title, and a legend explaining your thematic layers (isochrones etc) building from your work on Lab IV.
